SBA approves assistance request for Lake, McHenry, Cook flood victims

Press Release - Tuesday, November 14, 2017

SPRINGFIELD (Nov. 14) — Gov. Bruce Rauner today announced the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) approved the state's request for assistance to help people and businesses in northeastern Illinois recover from severe storms and floods that occurred July 11-27.

Those impacted by the floods in Lake and the contiguous Illinois counties of Cook and McHenry are now eligible to apply for low-interest, long-term loans.

"I appreciate the SBA's quick consideration of our request for assistance," Rauner said. "This will help many people and businesses begin the next phase of their recovery from this disaster."

To be eligible for an SBA declaration, at least 25 homes and/or businesses in a county must sustain major, uninsured losses of 40 percent or more. A damage assessment conducted in August identified 233 homes and 21 businesses in Lake County sustained major damages and had uninsured losses.

Information about the disaster loan program and application deadlines is available on the SBA's website at http://www.sba.gov/disaster.
