Plan and Prepare
A disaster can strike at any time and anywhere: when you are at home, at work or while you are traveling on vacation. Preparedness is more than just building a kit. Building a culture of preparedness is the cornerstone of disaster preparedness.
The Illinois Emergency Management Agency is encouraging Illinoisans to take time to prepare for potential emergencies. Having a plan that includes where to go and how to communicate during disasters, building an emergency supply kit and learning lifesaving skills could help your family, friends, neighbors and employees during a disaster.
Remember, sometimes emergencies are so immense that responders cannot immediately assist you or your family. It is your responsibility to prepare yourself by:
- Making a plan
- Make sure everyone in the family knows the plan
- Be trained in first aid and CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation)
- Build emergency kits
- Volunteer
