Possible online services disruption due to Internet related outage

A worldwide technology outage is causing disruption to some State of Illinois online systems.  We are aware of this issue and are diligently working on restoration.

In the ongoing effort to support our local, county, and state partners, IEMA will provide information and specifics to coordinate current information:

  • Presidential Disaster Declaration for Cook, Fulton, Henry, St. Clair, Washington, Will, and Winnebago Counties in Illinois for severe weather in July 2024
  • Presidential Disaster Declaration for St. Clair County in Illinois for flooding for 2022
  • Presidential Disaster Declaration for Cook County in Illinois for severe weather in June/July 2023
  • The State of Illinois Disaster Proclamation for the Asylum Seekers in Illinois

Gas

Undetected gas leaks can cause explosions and fires. Be aware that a gas leak can occur if your home or business suffers structural damage during a disaster.

Signs of a gas leak include:

  • A sulfur or "rotten egg" smell. Though pure natural gas is odorless, gas utilities add an odorant to give it a distinctive smell.
  • A high-pitched whistling or hissing sound.
  • Blowing dust or dead vegetation in a normally green area outside.
  • Continuous bubbles in a flooded area.

If you suspect a natural gas leak:

  • Do not try to locate the source of the leak.
  • Do not use any open flames like candles, matches or lighters.
  • Do not use telephones, cell phones, computers, appliances, doorbells or garage door openers, and do not touch any light switches or electrical outlets.
  • Open windows and doors only if it is possible to do so quickly and easily.
  • Quickly leave the house or building, taking everyone, including pets, with you.
  • Go to a location where you no long smell gas, and call your local natural gas utility.
  • Call 911 if there appears to be an immediate danger.
